Widening the Circle of Authority

In any nonprofit organization, ultimate authority lies with the Board of Directors (BOD). The BOD then delegates authority to its chief executive officer, who, in turn, further delegates authority to senior managers and so forth.  But what would happen if you widened the circle of authority to include the people who actually do the work, presented them with opportunities to grow, and trusted that things would work out?  Would chaos ensue or would something more meaningful and satisfying emerge?  Today’s talk will highlight the value of organizing around expanded circles of authority as a viable and practical means for meeting today’s challenges.
